Oftentimes I find using an image as a metaphor can be helpful to clarify an intention or idea. I was recently speaking to a friend and shared an image concept I created many years ago that I find to be helpful and I thought to write a simple post in case it would be encouraging to you as well. The idea is this: our lives are like a wheel, within this circle is our hub containing our central core beliefs and essence, and our external life contains spokes to fill our life making our circle ready for motion. If your wheel only has three spokes it puts a lot of weight load and pressure on each tangent. A spoke can be anything supportive that we consciously incorporate to fill our life and make it whole; examples might include our jobs, relationships, hobbies, pets, lifestyle habits, volunteer efforts, etc. So let’s say you design your life to have fifteen or more positive habits, people and involvements to keep you feeling balanced…you could potentially lose half of the spokes in your wheel and still feel quite full and also maintain not putting too much pressure or weight on any one person or hobby. Identify a list of what is supporting your life right now. Consciously think of what you can add and subtract mindfully. Know that life is fluid and spokes will sometimes need to be changed and switched out to adapt for new circumstances. Nourish your inner core and allow the arms in your life to complete your circle and keep you in motion. Trust that as you create many spokes in your wheel the vibrancy and spectrum of your life will expand with joy and ease.
